The Tale of the Shepherd Boy

Deep within the enchanting rolling fields, lived a boy named Shepherd. His existence was here mostly pure, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was to tend to his flock of ewes.
Their soft bleating and the whispering of the gales through the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main associates. Day upon day, looking out for his charges imbued in him a sense of tranquil contentment.
But, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. On one such day out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plot.
Narratives of wild beasts preying on sheep had long been circulating in the town. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the villagers.
One afternoon he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but saw nothing threatening.
The boy giggled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick laughed for a few more days. Yet, one day, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the results of crying wolf.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
